Rockford Scanner™: Stephenson County Tornado Warning Update

Rockford Scanner

Evening everyone, we just wanted to give you all a quick update and round up of the facts.  The Tornado Warning for Stephenson County was allowed to expire around 8:45 pm as the storm quickly showed signs of weakening.  The initial warning came out around 8:27 pm.  According to the NWS in Quad Cities, the warning was issued solely based on the sheriff report of a tornado near Elroy, IL.  At this time there have been no confirmed reports of damage, but if that does change we will be sure to update this post.

It is hard to confirm if there was, in fact, a tornado there or not at this time.  Radar scans from the NWS Quad Cities would be scanning around 5,100 ft with the cloud ceiling in Freeport around that time being down around 1,500 ft.  Meaning the radar was not scanning the lowest elevations and would not be able to see any low-level rotation if it were there.  If we get any updates, we will be sure to update this post!

Rockford Scanner™: Meteor Sighting!

Rockford Scanner

Around 8:40 pm tonight several meteor sightings were being reported across several states in Midwest. The meteor was reported to be going north to south and had a greenish color to it.

Did you happen to see it? Still developing and more info to come!

Report your sighting to https://www.amsmeteors.org/members/imo/report_intro

I, Trina Sansone and my daughter, Tasha Sansone were driving West on Harlem towards North Second St. and we both witnessed this Meteor. When we stopped at the stop light at N. 2nd and Harlem, this Meteor was very low flying in the sky.
It was literally the size of a basketball and fast but not so fast you couldn’t make it out. We actually just sat there with our mouths gaping wondering what the heck this thing was. At first it did look like a missile. It was flying straight without erratic behavior. The colors were blue, some green and a white tail and looked as if it was headed straight towards the blue water tower in the area. We never heard it because our windows were up and air was on. When we arrived at our destination our family members heard the boom which verified what we seen. They stated it sounded like a sonic boom.

Rockford Scanner™: Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July!

Today is one of my favorite days of the year!

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful 4th of July!

Send us your 4th off July celebration or firework videos, to RockfordScanner@Gmail.com

It is going to be a beautiful day out there, High of 90 degrees.  There is a slight chance of storms between 3pm and 6 pm. But that should not effect the fireworks displays.

I plan on attending the Downtown or Shorewood Park fire works.  I have yet to make up my mind. Both are good.  So if you see me, feel free to stop and say hi! 🙂

I will probably be streaming LIVE, the fireworks display on our Facebook page at  Rockford Scanner Facebook Page

If you fly your quad-copter (AKA: Drones)  I would love to see those videos!
Note: Just be sure to call the RFD tower to request flight clearance if you are within 5 miles of the airport. They do grant clearance all the time to quad-copter pilots.
The RFD tower number is: 815-484-5312

Remember, if you are lighting off fireworks, the police plan on cracking down on that again this year.  So do so at your own discretion.

I hate to be the Debbie Downer and tell you that, because I love fireworks. But the law is the law.

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful 4th of July!  ~ Rickie Traeger
