2nd Alarm House Fire in Machesney Park

  • by

Update from the NPFD:

North Park firefighters were alerted to a structure fire in the 200 block of Wilshire Blvd. this afternoon at 13:18:43. Our first unit on scene at 13:24:34 found a detached garage fully involved that had spread to the house at the same address, the neighboring fence and was impinging on the home immediately to the east.

Crews on scene immediately began suppressing the main body of fire and protecting exposures. Unfortunately the fire had spread to the attic area of the involved home causing structural compromise of the roof. Crews extinguished this fire as quickly as possible and began the process of overhaul and salvaging items for the occupants.

We’re very thankful no one was injured and that our automatic aid partners were there to assist so quickly. Mutual aid assets were also requested due to concerns of the second home also possibly having fire in the attic area. Fortunately this was not the case, and the second home suffered exterior damage only. Our thanks to mutual aid departments that responded as well.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal investigator conducted an investigation of the scene. At this time the cause is still under investigation.
