Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that a Grand Jury has returned an indictment against a Rockford woman for physically abusing an infant child.
On August 20th, 2019, Rockford Fire Personnel responded to a residence in the 700 Block of Belmont Avenue to find a five month old baby, not breathing.
The child was taken to a Rockford Hospital and diagnosed with multiple skull fractures as well as a brain injury.
Violent Crimes Detectives conducted a follow up investigation which was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office.
As a result, charges were authorized against Porshay A. Paden (DOB 9/17/1997). Paden was recently indicted by a Winnebago County Grand Jury on Aggravated Battery to a Child and Aggravated Domestic Battery charges.
Aggravated Battery to a Child is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Aggravated Domestic Battery is a Class 2 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 3-7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Paden is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment at 9:00am on September 13th, 2019, in front of the Honorable Judge Debra Shafer in Courtroom B at the Winnebago County Justice Center.
The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
