A skydiver suffered serious injuries Monday afternoon after he landed on Illinois 251 South near West Gurler Road at around 4pm.
The male subject was jumping out of Chicagoland Skydiving Center located at the Rochelle Municipal Airport.
Reports indicate that the skydiver hit some electrical power lines prior to landing on the highway face down. He was wearing a helmet.
Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville said that the injured skydiver was in his late 20’s to early 30’s. It does not appear he was a local resident.
An emergency helicopter arrived on the scene to transported the man to a Rockford hospital with the head injury. He was conscious at times following the accident.
He also suffered injuries to his chest, pelvis, and left arm.
Illinois 251 South was closed for a period of time when emergency personnel were on the scene.
(WLS) — A skydiver was injured in Ogle County on Monday, authorities said.
The 30-year-old man, who the Chicagoland Skydiving Center in Rochelle, Illinois, described as an “experienced, licensed jumper,” came into contact with a utility line and landed on Route 251 South. The skydiving center said the jumper was injured but alert.
The man was transported by life flight to a hospital in Rockford out of an abundance of caution, authorities said. His injuries appear to be non-life threatening.
Nicole Riley said:
“I have a source that works there and they said the skydiver was ok. 251 in the area was closed for a short time but is open now and skydiving continued. In fact I just watched a couple land.”
Sources are reporting another skydiving accident in Rochelle.
