Rockford Scanner™: Fatal Accident Near Janesville

On 8/9/19 at 8:53 PM, the Janesville Police Department and Janesville Fire Department responded to a car vs pedestrian crash in the 1200 Block of N Parker Dr. The pedestrian, a 45 year old Janesville resident did not survive.

The crash was witnessed by a Janesville Police Officer. The Officer was traveling north and observed a south bound vehicle strike the pedestrian. The Officer had not observed the pedestrian prior to the crash. The Officer exited his vehicle and flagged down a Janesville Fire Department ambulance which was also traveling north on Parker Dr. The pedestrian began receiving medical care in less than a minute from the impact and was transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead.

The crash was witnessed by a Janesville Officer, several employees of Panoramic, and another motorist. None of the witnesses reported any unsafe driving by the vehicle and none reported having observed the pedestrian prior to the impact. The driver of the vehicle exhibited no signs of impairment and there was no indication that would suggest distracted driving as the officer observed that the vehicle appeared to be yielding to the approaching ambulance that was coming from the south with its emergency lights and siren

A Janesville Police Crash Reconstructionist responded to investigate the crash. Preliminary calculations suggest the vehicle was traveling between 27 and 31 MPH in the posted 35 MPH zone at the time of the crash. The driver of the vehicle was not issued any citations.

The possibility of alcohol being related to the pedestrian’s movements is being investigated.
