So now this poses a question: WHO is lying? The officer who said “nothing is happening” and is was a “huge misunderstanding” that you can clearly see and hear on my body camera footage, or the local news?
Around 5 am this morning sources told us about a scene that involved numerous officers in Machesney Park.
It happened near Ventura blvd. Just North of Ralston.
I got out of my vehicle to work the scene and just set up my camera when a WCSO officer and a Illinois State Trooper approached me and said to not go any further. I was a ways back and did not plan on going any further.
He then said that “absolutely nothing going on here” and I responded back and pointed and said “that’s nothing” (referring to all the police on scene) and laughed. The officer then responded back and said “it was a huge misunderstanding” and walked away. (body cam footage below)
I saw 3 jurisdictions on scene from my vantage point. Winnebago County Sheriff, Illinois State Police, Loves Park and what appeared to be a white van, possibly a crime scene unit but I wasn’t able to tell because an officer had the view blocked with his squad..
So it is unclear exactly what happened.
But police said it was a “huge misunderstanding”
Keep up the good work sending in your tips to us. SEE IT, SNAP IT, SEND IT
Call log shows it to be a suspicious auto call, with several area police departments responding to assist with a suspicious auto
Update from a source: “Baby from accident is fine resting ,in a little pain with some bumps bruises”
Sources are reporting an accident on the East side.
With possible shots fired just prior to the accident.
4 shots were heard just prior to the accident.
It happened just before 2:30 am this morning near 12th ave and 25th st.
Initial reports said a car vs building, back of the school. An infant was involved and the infant was not breathing and the infant was bleeding.
The mother and infant left while emergency personnel were trying to do an assessment at the scene. Transported to a local ER via her own vehicle.
Admin Will went to the scene to work the story and he has worked several fatals over the years as well. And he said it did not appear to be a fatal. And he did not see any buildings hit. He said it appeared to be only a traffic accident from what he saw at the scene.
He did say that police were on 12th ave and 23rd st, and someone was in the back seat of the squad car. So this possibly might of been an accident where the occupant fled, and police caught the occupant.
He said the vehicle crashed into a ditch area near 25th st and 12th ave, and into a part of a baseball diamond fence.
He said he did not see any evidence markers laying anywhere, so the shots fired is unconfirmed. But several sources have reported the gunshots.
Police have yet to release any information on the incident.
Reports of a suspect that ran off with a gun, possibly an officers gun. A silver revolver.
Several officers from several jurisdictions are on scene including the state police.
Several officers are near Halsted, Rockton, Kilburn, Searles, Glenwood, N Horseman, etc… a very large perimeter.
Sources said black sweat shirt and grey pants the suspect is wearing.
Update: Someone saw the alleged suspect running behind some house near Sablewood. We were told it was a silver revolver the suspect has. Initial reports are saying it is a possible officers gun. But some are saying the local police do not carry revolvers. Others said some officers still do carry them as a backup. So unknown, all we know is there is an armed suspect running through the neighborhood near here. We have been told there were 3 shots fired, but again police are encrypted and have not confirmed this or released any information on the incident.
RPD has yet to confirm this or release any info. on the incident or suspects.
