Rockford Scanner™: Water Rescue Near Janesville

On 03-11-19 at about 3:00pm, Janesville officers were dispatched to the Center Avenue Bridge for a check welfare complaint. Rock County Dispatch received a phone call from a male who said he was going to jump off the bridge and the phone line disconnected.

Upon arrival, officers located a male on the west side of the Center Avenue Bridge. As officers tried to approach him, he climbed over the bridge railing. Crisis Negotiator Officer Stutika arrived on scene and tried negotiating with the male who was threatening to jump. Eventually, the male discontinued talking to Officer Stutika and jumped into the Rock River.

The male was pulled from the river by the Janesville Fire Department’s water rescue team. The male was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
