ISP ARRESTS TWO AND SEIZES OVER 110 POUNDS OF SUSPECTED COCAINE
A traffic stop made by an Illinois State Police (ISP) Trooper yesterday has resulted in two arrests and the seizure of suspected cocaine weighing more than 110 pounds.
On February 21, 2019 an ISP Trooper from the Statewide Criminal Patrol Team stopped a truck tractor-semi trailer combination Northbound on I-55 near Towanda, IL to conduct a Motor Carrier Safety Inspection. During the inspection the Trooper observed indicators of possible criminal activity. A State Police canine alerted to the odor of illegal drugs within the semi-trailer.
A subsequent search of the trailer by Illinois State Troopers and McLean County Deputies resulted in the seizure of fifty (50) kilograms of cocaine hidden within the legitimate freight inside the trailer.
Arrested for Controlled Substance Trafficking, Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Controlled Substance were Brandon R. Weise, 35, of Murrieta, California and Miguel Martinez, 36, of Desert Springs, California. Both subjects have been incarcerated in the McLean County Jail and have been formally charged by the McLean County State’s Attorney. A McLean County Judge has set their bond at $500,000 cash.
No additional information will be released regarding this incident.
The public is reminded that criminal defendants are presumed innocent until the government is able to prove its charges in a court beyond a reasonable doubt.
