High pressure will build across the region to close the week providing fair weather conditions today and Friday. A strong low will lift across the region over the weekend bringing periods of rain. Rain is expected to begin during the predawn hours Saturday morning.

Temperatures will be near freezing across portions of north central and far northeast Illinois as precip begins presenting a brief window of possible icy conditions, but temperatures should quickly warm above freezing Saturday morning. A cold front will sweep across the area Saturday night with very strong winds expected in its wake. Winds gusting 40 to 45 mph appear likely and there could be a few higher gusts.

Temperatures are expected to fall through the day Sunday, back into the teens and single digits Sunday night.
