Frozen Water Pipes?

To date, we have not experienced enough low temperature days to freeze pipes below the ground. However, the severe cold and wind since last weekend are cause for freezing pipes in areas of the home that do not get adequate heat. Such areas include basements and crawl spaces, attics, garages, or kitchen cabinets (especially on outside walls.)

Please be mindful of these areas, especially if you have had problems with frozen pipes in your home.

Some tips to prevent frozen pipes in your home are:
• Open your cabinet doors to allow heat to circulate around pipes.
• Use heat-tape on, or insulate pipes located in, unheated areas of your home.
• If necessary, allow your water to run a trickle (generally a stream about the size of a pencil lead) to prevent freezing.
