RICHARD JANUSZ OF SYCAMORE SENTENCED TO 101 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD SEX ASSAULTS

A Sycamore man has learned his fate for sexually assaulting a child and for creating child pornography of the victim.
DeKalb County Associate Judge Phil Montgomery today sentenced 50-year-old Richard Janusz to 101 years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

A DeKalb County jury on May 10, 2018, convicted Janusz of the offenses of:
* Predatory criminal sexual assault, Class X felony, 11 counts
* Manufacturing child pornography, Class X felony, 4 counts

DeKalb County State’s Attorney Rick Amato and DeKalb County Assistant State’s Attorney Alicia Caplan presented evidence during the trial that multiple times between 2010 and 2014, Janusz sexually assaulted the victim and took multiple nude, lewd and sexually compromising photographs of the victim, who was younger than 13 years old. Janusz knew the victim.

The sentence is 77 years for the predatory criminal sexual assault offenses and 24 years for the child pornography offenses. Janusz must serve at least 85 percent of the 77-year sentence and is eligible for day-for-day credit on the child pornography sentence. The sentences are to be served consecutive to one another.

In addition to the prison sentence Janusz must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
State’s Attorney Amato said:
“I am pleased with the efforts of so many people to bring justice to this victim. ASA Caplan, our Children’s Advocacy Center and the Sycamore Police Department did extraordinary work for this victim, for the victim’s family and for our community in holding this defendant accountable for his disgusting, despicable crimes against a child who should have been able to trust him. My thanks to all for their hard work.”

Richard Janusz: Age 50 (d.o.b. 1-31-1968), of the 500 block of Nathan Lattin Lane, Sycamore, Illinois.
