WEEKEND INCIDENTS: Below is a summary of incidents from Friday, December 7 through Monday morning, December 10.

SHOOTING: On Friday, December 7, 2018 at approximately 5:30 p.m., Rockford Police officers responded to Mercy Health Hospital (2400 North Rockton Avenue) in reference to a shooting victim. The 18-year-old male was shot once in the arm. Officers learned the victim, identified as Joshua Whittie, was in the 3300 block of Searles Avenue attempting to purchase drugs when a male suspect shot the victim and drove off with his money. The victim’s injury is non-life-threatening. He was treated and released from the hospital and then transported to the Winnebago County Jail on outstanding warrants.

The charges against Whittie are merely accusations. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.

STRONG ARM ROBBERY: On Friday, December 7, 2018 at approximately 5:30 p.m., Rockford Police officers were called to the 2300 block of Wisconsin Road for a robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned the 57-year-old female victim was walking up to a residence in the area when a suspect ran up, grabbed her purse and fled north in a gray sedan. The victim as not hurt.

ARMED ROBBERY: On Saturday, December 8, 2018 at approximately 5:45 p.m., Rockford Police officers responded to Metro PCS (3611 North Main Street) for an armed robbery. When officers arrived on scene, they learned two suspects entered the store, one armed with a handgun, and struck an employee in the face with the weapon. The suspects then took money and cellphones from the store, as well as the employee’s wallet and keys. The employee, a 30-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. The suspects are described as black males between 20-30 years old, 6’0” tall, one wearing a black hoodie, black pants and black gloves. The other suspect was last seen in a maroon jacket and gray hoodie.

RECKLESS DISCHARGE: On Saturday, December 8, 2018 shortly after 4:00 a.m., Rockford Police officers were called to McDonalds (2620 Charles Street) for shots fired. Officers learned an occupant of a vehicle in the drive-through fired off a shot into the air. No one was hurt. Officers located the suspect vehicle with three occupants in a parking lot in the 200 block of 9th Street. The driver and a passenger were taken into custody, and a handgun was recovered from the vehicle. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and authorized the below listed charges.

Smith and Coleman were lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. The charges against Smith and Coleman are merely accusations. They are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court
