SERIOUS ACCIDENT: Avoid Kishwaukee Street between 18th and 16th avenues for the next several hours following a serious accident involving a pedestrian. On Monday, November 19, 2018 at 8:30 p.m., RPD officers learned a 31-year-old male victim was crossing Kishwaukee Street in the 1700 block when he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and was not hurt.

The Rockford Police Department Traffic Reconstruction Team was called to the scene. This is an active and ongoing investigation

A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle near this location.

Injuries were being reported.

Unknown if the vehicle stopped or fled the scene.

MURDER CONVICTIONS: Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announced two guilty verdicts in two separate murder trials.

A jury found 23-year-old Deon Hart guilty of First Degree Murder and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm following the deadly shooting of Lester Sanders in the 3300 block of Sablewood Drive in May of 2017.

Detectives from the Rockford Police Department Violent Crimes Unit conducted a follow-up investigation that resulted in the arrest of Deon Hart and Van Richardson. Richardson was convicted of First Degree Murder and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm after a jury trial in October.

A judge convicted 23-year-old Deontay Gunnell during a bench trial for the December 2015 death of Racheal Garrett. Garrett was shot and killed in an apartment on Tanner Court. Detectives from the Rockford Police Department Violent Crimes Unit conducted a follow-up investigation that led to charges against Gunnell and two other men. Gunnell was found guilty of First Degree Murder, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Mob Action.

Rockford Scanner®: Sources Reporting A Stabbing Victim Scene at A Rockford Gas Station

Around 2:45pm officers responded to 2837 11th Street in reference to a stabbing.  The victim, a 20 year old, Hispanic male, had been driven to an area hospital in a private vehicle after being stabbed in the parking lot of the Citgo Gas Station at 2837 11th Street.  The victim and another male got into a confrontation in the gas station parking lot.  The victim sustained a life-threatening stab wound.

The suspect was described as a white male, 5’7 170lbs.  At the time of this posting the victim is in critical condition.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident are asked to call the Rockford Police Department (815-966-2900) or their area Crime Stoppers.


Sources reporting a scene at the Citgo on 11th st in Rockford.

At the time of writing this, it is not yet known due to the encryption.

We been told it was a stabbing victim, according to a source.

Unknown if it was an employee or a citizen.

The victim was stabbed in the neck and the injuries are believed to be life threatening.

No suspect information, due to the encryption.

But can not confirm it due to the encryption and RPD has yet to release information.

All we can confirm, RPD is working a scene at the station, with numerous police officers on scene.

ARMED ROBBERY ARREST: A Rockford man now faces charges following an armed robbery to a business over the weekend. On Saturday, November 17, 2018 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Rockford Police officers responded to Papa John’s (2975 North Perryville Road).

Upon arrival, officers learned two suspects entered the restaurant, one armed with a handgun and the other with a baseball bat, and demanded money. The suspects fled with money and a phone in a dark-colored, 4-door vehicle. No one was hurt.

A short time after the incident, deputies with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect vehicle and followed it.

The two suspects got out of the vehicle at South Mulford Road and Harrison Avenue and fled on foot. A K9 located one of the suspects, identified as 26-year-old Eugene Shanklin, and he was taken into custody.

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and authorized the below listed charges.

Eugene Shanklin, 26, Rockford: Armed Robbery (2 Counts)

Shanklin was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. The charges against Shanklin are merely accusations. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Update from the RPD:

On 11-18-18 at 7:46 pm officers responded to the 1500 block of Crosby Street for reports of gunshots. Officers learned a victim was walking with a friend in the 1500 block of Crosby St. when they were approached by a subject who was on foot. The subject displayed a handgun and began shooting in the direction of the victim. The victim was struck in the leg one time by gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a black male, wearing a mask and white shirt. 1607 Crosby St. was also struck by gunfire during the incident. No one inside the residence of 1607 Crosby St. was injured. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rockford Police or Winnebago County Crime Stoppers.


Sources say around 8 pm last night there was a shooting victim at Swedish American Hospital.

One Confirmed Shooting Victim. Unconfirmed, but possible multiple victims.

Unknown on the severity of the injuries and suspect information.

A short time before the shooting victim arrived, shots were heard in the 1500 block of Crosby.  It is believed to be related to this, but it is not yet confirmed.
