The North Park Fire Protection District has added a rescue tax to the upcoming ballot. If passed, the additional dollars would help support equipment maintenance and provide volunteers with on-call pay.
Despite what many think – we receive our funding only from property taxes from residents, billing of non-residents, through the Illinois Tollway billing contract and a relatively small amount comes from the state in the form of Foreign Fire Tax (projected at $44,400 for this fiscal year).
We receive no funds from the county’s public safety tax, from sales tax in any of the areas we serve, etc.
And in no way, shape or form is our referendum a veiled attempt to provide a fire district tax funded ambulance service.
Our ambulance service will continue to remain provided by a private contractor at no cost to taxpayers unless utilized, which will result in direct billing for their services.
Voting yes on our referendum would allow us to continue to be able to insure we have top notch equipment and vehicles, pay our volunteers as true paid on call firefighters and save for future large capital expenses.
