Rockford Scanner™: Shooting in Belvidere, Possibly involving a police officer

On Sunday, September 23, 2018 the Belvidere Police Department received a 911 call reporting shots fired in the 2300 block of Fairfield Trail, Belvidere, Il 61008. Belvidere Patrol Officers, Belvidere Fire Dept., and Lifeline Ambulance responded to the area.

On arrival, Belvidere officers located a male in his late 20’s with a single gunshot wound to the torso. Belvidere officers and paramedics rendered first aid until Lifeline ambulance arrived on scene and transported the victim to St. Anthony hospital.

Belvidere officers located a handgun and a male suspect at the scene. The scene was secured, and the suspect was transported to the Belvidere Police Department for questioning.

The victim is in stable condition and has been released from the hospital. The incident is still under investigation

We been told there is an officer involved shooting in Belvidere.

We can confirm a shooting. But we can not yet confirm if it is officer involved.

One person was shot. Unknown if it was the officer or someone else.

Sounds like the person that was shot, was shot in the stomach or chest area.

It happened near Fairfield Trail in Belvidere. Cloverdale Way was also mentioned.

Numerous emergency personnel are on scene.

They are clearing a house,  women and children are coming out with their hands up in the air.  Police have them at gunpoint. Police have rifles and shields.

UPDATE: Male victim was shot in the left abdomen.  Reports of the suspect had possibly barricaded themselves in a residence. Initial reports were saying it was possibly officer involved, but now reports are saying that an officer was not involved.  Still developing.
