Around 1:20 pm today, several emergency personnel were responding to a man with a gun, near a local school.

UPDATE: Female Arrested for School Threats

On 9/20/2018 the Belvidere Police Department responded to a report, from a concerned citizen, regarding a man with a gun, in the area of Belvidere South Middle School, 919 E. 6th St.

Schools in the area went on lockdown procedures as law enforcement searched the area. No man with a gun was located and no acts of violence occurred.

The continued investigation by BPD Detectives resulted in the arrest of Sabrina L. Andrews (age 20) for:

Disorderly Conduct – Filing a False Police Report (Class 4 felony – 3 counts)
Transmitting a False Threat of Violence Against a Person at a School (Class 3 Felony).

Andrews is lodged in the Boone County Jail on a $20,000 bond.


Police arrest a person in connection to this incident. They have yet to release his name to the public.


UPDATE: The police cleared the schools and said the situation is clear and will be back to normal in a bit. (3:30 pm)


It happened in the area of the Belvidere South Middle School

The school went on lockdown.

A parent told the secretary that there is a man with a gun walking around the school grounds. Not inside the school.

No one has been physically seen with a gun yet.

Several officers are en route

Alleged suspect is a white male, approx. 21 years old, 5’3, 120 lbs,  blond hair, green eyes, mustache

Numerous police officers are on scene investigating.

Everyone is safe so far, no reports of any injuries.

Staging area for parents to pick their children up is at Emanuel Lutheran on the church side. This is also where the command post is located at.

The school district released the following approx 2:25 pm, an hour and 5 minutes (65 minutes)  after the incident started :

In the last 30 minutes, Belvidere High School, Belvidere South Middle School, as well as Meehan Elementary School went into a lockdown due to a report of a safety threat in the area. The Belvidere Police Department and School Administration worked immediately to investigate the threat and the area.

Students are being kept in the school while the police investigate the situation. We will update you as soon as police have completed their investigation.

2:53 pm  Attention Parents of Meehan, Belvidere South Middle School and Belvidere High School:
Students are being kept in the building until the police have given the okay to be released. This means students cannot be picked up, take the bus or walk home at these three schools. As soon as we have received a confirmation from police, we will immediately inform you. Thank you for your patience as we continue to keep the safety of our students our number one priority.

 

3:29 pm ALL CLEAR: The police department has confirmed the threat has been assessed and the all clear has been given. Students were kept in the building until this threat was cleared. Transportation will now resume at Meehan and BHS immediately. South Middle School students who walk or are picked up will be released immediately. South Middle School students who take the bus will be transported as buses arrive. Any students who walk home will be dismissed as usual.

After school activities for South have been cancelled.

After school activities for Belvidere High School will occur as planned.
