On Friday, April 13, 2018, at approximately 3:45 a.m. officers of the Rockford Police Department responded to a report of a subject armed with a handgun breaking into an apartment in the 900 block of Grant Avenue. Upon arrival, officers were able to make contact with the complainant and the tenants of the residence, who were safely removed from the apartment.
During the course of the investigation, officers discovered the suspect, later identified as Torey Adams, had barricaded himself in the attic of the residence and refused to come out. Adams is related to the tenant of the apartment. Members of the Rockford Police Department’s S.W.A.T. Team and Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the location.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Adams surrendered to officers without incident. Officers searched the residence and did not recover a handgun. No one was injured during this incident.
The facts of the case were reviewed with the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. The following charges were authorized against Adams:
ARRESTED: Torey Adams 28-years-old Rockford, IL
CHARGES: Felony Criminal Trespass to Residence
Adams was also wanted on three outstanding warrants for: Possession of a Controlled Substance, Disorderly Conduct and Fleeing to Elude.
Adams was transported to the Winnebago County Jail where he was lodged. The charges against Adams are merely accusations and not evidence of his guilt. As with all defendants in criminal cases, he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
This is an on-going investigation and no further details are available at this time.
