On Friday, March 16, 2018, at about 2:30 a.m. patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to an apartment in the 700 block of Lee Street in reference to a home invasion. When they arrived, officers met with a female victim who reported that her ex-boyfriend, James Mills, had forced his way into her apartment. Mills then grabbed a knife and threatened the victim, her adult male acquaintance, and five-year-old child. Mills fled the scene when the victim called police.
Detectives from the Domestic Violence Unit conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident. The investigation was then reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, charges were authorized and a warrant was obtained for Mills.
