UPDATE FROM THE PILOT:
Pilot was Ok, it was pilot error. According to the pilot, he was looking at his IPAD when he crashed. The airplane is in “bad shape” according to the pilot who was flying the plane that crashed.
This morning a small plane has crashed at the Rockford Airport.
Due to the encryption, we are just now finding out about this. This happened earlier this morning.
The small plane was coming from Dubuque Iowa to the Rockford Airport. A 98 mile trip and approx. a 30 minute flight.
It was a Cessna 182. Tail number of N96772. It is registered to KLEIS, RICHARD. It was scheduled to land just before 10 am. It flew at around 2,600 feet on the way to the Rockford Airport. The cloud base was around 3,000 feet according to pilots. The aircraft was headed to the avionics place, at the Rockford airport.
It came in on runway 1/19 the North/South runway. It was an ILS approach. It came in to land from the south when it crashed upon landing. It did not sound like the pilot was in distress, just prior to the crash.
