A Local Rockford Resident Shot While Walking on Rockford’s East Side

On Wednesday, March 21, 2018, shortly after 11:00 p.m. patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to the Circle K, 3816 Broadway, in reference to a shooting. When they arrived officers learned that the victim, an 18-year-old male, had been walking in the 1500 block of Eastmoreland Avenue with two other subjects when they were approached by a silver vehicle occupied by several subjects. The individuals in the vehicle then exchanged words with the victim. One of the subjects in the vehicle then shot the victim one time in the abdomen. The victim then ran to the Circle K where he met with the officers. The victim was later transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m. officers located a silver Chevrolet Impala, which closely matched the description of the suspect vehicle, near the intersection of Andrews Street and North Central Avenue. A traffic stop was conducted and it was determined the vehicle was occupied by three individuals, an 18-year-old driver and two juvenile males. A handgun was recovered from the vehicle.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit were called to conduct a follow-up investigation into the shooting. The investigation was later reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, the listed charges were authorized against the two juveniles. The adult male was released without charge.

CHARGES: Probation Violation (Warrant)
Both juvenile suspects were later lodged in the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center. The names and photos of the suspects cannot be released due to their ages.
The charges against the suspects are merely accusations and not evidence of their guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases they are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
This is an on-going investigation and no further details are available at this time. Further information will be released should it become available.
On 3/21/2018 at around 11:08 PM, Officers from the Rockford Police Department were dispatched to the 1500 block of Eastmoreland Ave in regards to a shooting victim.
Officers arrived and met with an 18 year old Rockford resident, who was suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his torso.
The victim reported that he was walking in the area with another adult male when they had an altercation with several males in a vehicle. A passenger of the vehicle fired gunshots from the vehicle, which stuck the victim.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The suspect vehicle is described as a silver Chevrolet Impala. The suspect is described as a black male, 18 years of age, dreadlock hair style, wearing a dark hooded jacket.
