On Thursday, February 22, 2018, at about 11:30 a.m. patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to the parking lot in the 3700 block of East State Street in reference to a call for shots fired. (Illinois Drivers License Bureau) When they arrived officers learned that the incident began when a black male suspect started battering a black female victim in the parking lot.
When bystanders attempted to intervene the black male, later identified as Michael Sherrod-Cole, removed a handgun from his vehicle and fired a round into the air. Sherrod-Cole then fled the scene in his vehicle. No one was injured from the gunfire.
Detectives from the Domestic Violence Unit conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident. The investigation was later reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, charges were authorized and a warrant was obtained for Sherrod-Cole.

BOND: $500,000 / 10%
The Rockford Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating Sherrod-Cole.

The charges against Sherrod-Cole are merely accusations and not evidence of his guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases he is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
