On Thursday, January 11, 2018, shortly after 4:00 p.m. officers and detectives from the Rockford Police Department responded to a residence in the 800 block of Concord Avenue in reference to a report of a home invasion. When they arrived officers were told by the occupants that an unknown black male suspect, who was armed with a handgun, had forced his way into the residence. Once inside, the suspect allegedly fired a round from the handgun striking a 2-year-old toddler. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The victim has since been released from the hospital.
Since the time of the incident detectives have been conducting a follow-up investigation. Based on the information available at this time investigators do not believe that the incident occurred as it was originally reported. The exact circumstances of the incident and the manner in which the victim was injured are still under investigation.
This is an on-going investigation and no further details are available at this time. Further information will be released should it become available
Black male, 5’8, 170 lbs, wearing a dark hoody and blue jeans. Fled out of the side of the house on foot.
The small boy approx. 3 years old is reported to have been shot in the foot and hand.
This was from an attempted break in.
Details are minimal due to the encryption.
Around 4:10 pm today emergency personnel were responding to a shooting call.
