Beginning in September, the City of Beloit has been experiencing burglaries to vacant residences where copper and other metals has been taken. The Beloit Police Department had developed a suspect through investigation.
On Thursday, December 21st, 2017, Detective Schoonover along with VCIT (Violent Crimes Interdiction Team) was watching an area where the suspect was known to frequent. The suspect, Kenneth D Hill 53, was observed walking behind an abandoned house ( 1852 Dewey Ave) and several minutes later he was observed exiting the residence through a rear window. Hill was stopped as he walked away from the residence and he had property from the abandoned house on his person. The vacant residence at 1852 Dewey Ave had copper wiring, among other items taken from the residence, and the window that Hill was seen coming from was found broken out.
Evidence indicates that Hill is connected with the numerous (at least 15) other vacant properties that were entered with the cost of the damage from the removal of the copper wiring, copper pipes, and water meters were taken exceed $100,000 in repairs alone. The burglaries generally occurred within a half a mile radius of where Hill was staying. Hill was arrested for Burglary, Theft and Criminal Damage to Property.
Kenneth Hill has several convictions for Burglary from Illinois. The District Attorney will be reviewing this case
