On Wednesday, July 26, 2017, patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to a report of a sexual assault that occurred in an apartment in the 300 block of Cameron Avenue.
According to the adult female victim she had been sexually assaulted by a male acquaintance. The officers were able to locate the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Donald Lewis of Rockford, at the scene and he was taken into custody. At the time of the incident the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the charge of Battery against Lewis. He was then lodged in the Winnebago County Jail where he later posted bond and was released.
Since the time of the incident detectives from the Sensitive Crimes Unit have been conducting a follow-up investigation into the incident. The investigation was again reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, additional charges were authorized against Lewis and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.
On Wednesday, December 13, 2017, detectives located and arrested Lewis on the warrant. He was then lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. A photo of Lewis is attached.

CHARGES: Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault (2 counts)
BOND: $100,000 / 10%
The charges against Lewis are merely accusations and not evidence of his guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases Lewis is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
