The latest from the National Weather Service in Chicago has a low tonight of -12F for the Rockford area. The record low for January 1st is -13F which was set back in 1924, and then tied again in 1968. The last time it was below 0F at Midnight on January 1st back in 1969 with a temperature of -8F.
If you are going to be out and about tonight, please be sure to bundle up as frostbite could occur in as little as 10 minuntes to exposed skin! A Wind Chill Warning is still in effect from 9 pm tonight to Noon tomorrow (Monday) for wind chills in the -25 to -30F range.
A Wind Chill Advisory will then take over at Noon on Monday through Noon on Tuesday for wind chills in the -20 to -30F range.
