Between November 30, 2017 and December 5, 2017 the Rockford Police Department received reports of three separate armed robbery incidents that occurred on the city’s east side. Two of the incidents occurred in the 700 block of Coolidge Place while the third occurred in the 1700 block of Lynnwood Street.
All three victims reported being robbed at gunpoint while attempting to sell items via a mobile classified app. When the victims arrived at the agreed upon meeting place the suspect would approach them, display a handgun, and take the item they had for sale before fleeing. None of the victims were injured during the incidents.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit conducted a follow-up investigation into all three robberies. The investigation was later reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, charges were authorized against a 17-year-old juvenile male suspect.
On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, detectives located and arrested the suspect on the listed charges. The suspect was then lodged in the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center. The name and photo of the suspect cannot be released due to his age.
ARRESTED: 17-year-old Juvenile Male
CHARGES: Armed Robbery (3 counts)
The charges against the suspect are merely accusations and not evidence of his guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases he is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
This is an on-going investigation and no further details are available at this time. Further information will be released should it become available.
