On Thursday, December 28, 2017, at about 9:20 a.m. a Rockford Police Patrol Officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Rockford Avenue and Charles Street. When the officer approached the vehicle, a green full size SUV, he noticed what appeared to be a handgun sitting on the center console. The officer attempted to order the driver, later identified as 24-year-old parolee Dylan Brown, out of the vehicle but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. The officer pursued the suspect vehicle for a short time before terminating the chase due to concerns for public safety.
Officers and Detectives from the Gang Unit later located Brown at a residence in the 2600 block of Colorado Avenue where he was taken into custody. The handgun, which was later determined to have been stolen, was also located during the investigation.
The investigation was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, the listed charges were authorized against Brown. He was later lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
ARRESTED: Dylan Brown 24-years-old Rockford, IL
Armed Habitual Criminal
Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Street Gang Member
Possession of a Stolen Firearm
Aggravated Fleeing to Elude Police
Obstructing Justice (2 counts)
The charges against Brown are merely accusations and not evidence of his guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases Brown is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
This is an on-going investigation and no further details are available at this time. Further information will be released should it become available
