On 12-21-17 at 12:15 a.m. officers from the Janesville Police Department responded to the area of E. Centerway St. and Williams St. for a report of a traffic accident. Upon arrival officers located a vehicle on it’s roof on Williams St., just north of E. Centerway St. The driver and lone occupant, Jeremiah K Smith, was standing outside the vehicle.
The investigation revealed that Smith was west on E. Centerway St. approaching Williams when he left the roadway and struck a power pole. After Smith struck the power pole he continued through a yard before driving over an embankment, which caused his vehicle to go airborne, flip and land in a yard of a residence on Williams St.
Jeremiah Smith showed signs of intoxication, failed field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for 4th offense Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI). After Smith was cleared from the hospital he was transported to the Rock County Jail, pending his initial court appearance.
The westbound lane of E. Centerway St. was closed for approximately 4 hours for repairs by Alliant to restore power.
Arrested: Jeremiah K. Smith 29 yrs. old
Address: Janesville resident
Charges: OWI 4th Offense, Operating after Revocation and Failure to Have Control
