ROCKFORD, Ill. – On Monday, December 4, 2017, at approximately 11:12 p.m., an officer of the Rockford Police Department observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Central Avenue and Preston Street. The officer continued to observe the driver of the vehicle commit multiple traffic violations.
The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of N. Central Avenue and Kilburn Avenue. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and accelerated in an attempt to flee the officer. The vehicle stopped on Kilburn Avenue, the driver (only occupant) exited the vehicle and began running from the officer. The officer was able to positively identify the driver as Martavius Young. Young was wanted on an outstanding probation violation warrant.
The officer gave Young verbal commands to stop. Young continued to run away from the officer. Rockford Police K-9, Dax, was deployed and utilized to apprehend Young. He (Young) was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries. Young was later lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
