On Saturday, October 7, 2017 shortly after 8:30 a.m., officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to Pueblo Meats & Produce, 901 Cunningham Street, for a report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers determined two male suspects, both armed with handguns, entered the business and demanded money. The suspects fled the business with an undisclosed amount of currency. During the course of the robbery one of the suspects struck one of the employee’s in the head multiple times with a handgun. Rockford Fire Department personnel transported that victim to a local hospital for medical treatment for injuries received during the incident.
On Monday, October 10, 2017, a Rockford Police patrol officer observed two suspicious subjects matching the descriptions from the armed robbery that occurred on the 7th. The officer detained the subjects and subsequently contacted Rockford Police detectives to assist in the investigation. Two handguns were also located in the vehicle belonging to the subjects.
After further investigation, detectives reviewed the results with the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office who authorized the following charges for:
ARRESTED: Jamell L. Jackson, 36-years-old, Rockford, Ill.
CHARGES: Armed Robbery
Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon
ARRESTED: Male, 17-years-old Male, Rockford, Ill.
CHARGES: Armed Robbery
Outstanding Warrant (unrelated)
“For a patrol officer to remember a suspect description two days after an incident and be able to further his initial contact and preliminary investigation into a successful arrest with more illegal guns being taken off the street is just plain excellent work,” said Police Chief Dan O’Shea.
Jackson was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail in lieu of bond. A photograph of Jackson is attached. No photo is available of the juvenile due to his age. Both suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

On Saturday, October 7, 2017 at approximately 0836 hours officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to Pueblo Meats & Produce located at 903 Cunningham St in reference to an Armed Robbery to the business.
Shortly before police arrival, two black male suspects entered the business and held two employees of the business at gunpoint demanding money.
During the course of the robbery one of the suspects struck an employee with a handgun in the head. Rockford Fire & Ambulance transported that victim to a local hospital for a laceration to the head.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. No further information is available.
