Delivery Driver Carjacking
Just Happened In Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. –
On 10/20/2017 around 8:15pm, officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of North Rockton Avenue in reference to a vehicular invasion. Upon arrival officers met with the male victim, who claimed he was delivering food to an address in the 2500 block of North Rockton Avenue when he was confronted by several black male suspects. The suspects battered the victim and the stole his vehicle.
A short time later, the vehicle and four suspects were located in the parking lot of Auburn High School, 5110 Auburn Street. An eighteen year old male and three fifteen year old males were taken into custody.
An investigation was conducted by Rockford Police Detectives. During the investigation, it was learned these same suspects burglarized a vehicle in the 2400 block of North Rockton Avenue earlier that evening. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office was contacted. They authorized the following charges:
Elijah Atkins, 18, Charges: Vehicular Hijacking, Aggravated Battery on a Public Way, Resisting
Fifteen year old male juvenile, Charges: Vehicular Hijacking, Aggravated Battery on a Public Way, Burglary to Motor Vehicle, Winnebago County Juvenile Custody Warrant
Fifteen year old male juvenile, Charges: Vehicular Hijacking, Aggravated Battery on a Public Way, Burglary to Motor Vehicle
Fifteen year old male juvenile, Charges: Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Criminal Trespass to Vehicle.
Atkins was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. Two of the juvenile males were lodged in the Juvenile Detention Center. The third was released to a parent.
This is an on-going investigation. No further information is available at this time.
The charges are merely accusations. They are considered innocent unless found guilty in a court of law
On Friday, October 20, 2017 at 8:16 pm Officers with the Rockford Police Department responded to the 2500 block of Rockton Ave in reference to a Vehicular Hijacking. The 43 years old male delivery driver was approached by 3 suspects who demanded his keys. The suspects began punching the victim and then took his vehicle and fled from the area. The victim was not injured.
At approximately, 9:13pm, Deputies with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office located the stolen vehicle as it pulled into the Kennedy Middle school parking lot on the south side of the Auburn H.S. adjacent to the football stadium. The suspects ran from the vehicle. A short time later four suspects were detained and at the time of this post the investigations continue.

At 9:12 pm tonight officers were dispatched for a man with a gun and a large fight at Auburn High School. When officers arrived on scene they saw this vehicle, and the suspects took off on foot. Officers were able to take 2 of the three into custody! Still developing
