Rockford Scanner fan contacted us and said they saw several officers and a crime scene near the 1500 block of S Central ave. They witnessed several yellow evidence cones and crime scene tape up at the scene with several officers at the scene.
At this time is not yet known what happened. RPD is saying there was a “Medical Assist” around the same time at 1526 S Central ave.
Aggravated Battery with Firearm

On Saturday, September 09, 2017 at 4:30pm Officers with the Rockford Police Department responded to the 1500 block of S. Central Avenue for reports of someone shot. Preliminary information indicated that a 19 yrs old male and a 20 yrs old female were struck by gunfire while outside in the area. They both were transported to a local hospital and treated for minor non-life threatening injuries. No one else was injured and nothing else was found to have been struck by gunfire. A suspect vehicle was described as a dark colored sports utility vehicle seen leaving the area.

“That’s not Pd’s fault. That’s dispatch’s fault. Some dispatchers make the fire ticket first and then clone a second ticket to Pd for a medical assist. If you make the Pd ticket first using the agg batt with a firearm code then clone a ticket to fire for the medical part. It’s how we code tickets just to get them out to dispatch. That doesn’t always mean that’s what they end up being. Basically it’s just about getting a ticket in right away to get someone started to the call.”
