On Thursday, September 14, 2017, at about 10:45 p.m. patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to the area of Sherman Avenue and Bluefield Street in reference to a call for shots fired. A short time later, a call was received for a suspicious vehicle in the 1100 block of Sherman Ave. Officers checked the area and located the vehicle, which was unoccupied. The body of a 35-year-old male was found lying outside of the vehicle. The victim appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives from the Rockford Police Department are conducting a follow-up investigation into the incident. The name of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of the next of kin.
