During the last several weeks, the Rockford Police Department has received complaints from citizens regarding possible criminal activity in the area of the 1200 block of 8th Street.
On Thursday, August 24, 2017 shortly after 10:00 a.m., members of the Rockford Police SCOPE unit were on patrol in the area when they made contact with 20-year-old Rockford resident, Tanner Roberts, and 19-year-old Rockford resident Jarrell Moore.
Officers learned that Roberts was wanted on an Illinois Department of Corrections parole violation warrant.
Further investigation revealed that Moore was in possession of a handgun. Officers discovered that firearm’s serial number had been defaced.
The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office was contacted and authorized the following charges on Moore:
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Defacing Identification Marks on a firearm
Roberts and Moore were transported to the Winnebago County Jail and lodged. This is an ongoing investigation. No further information is available at this time.
The charges against Roberts and Moore are merely accusations. They are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
