We heard reports of a woman jumping off the Riverside bridge in Loves Park overnight. We were trying to gather information on it, when the person who rescued the woman contacted us. Below is the information he sent us.
The woman who’s first name is Jessica, and is around 20-30 years old, decided to make a decision that would change the lives of those involved. Approx 1:15 am, She decided to jump off the Riverside bridge and into the turbulent waters of the Rock River
With the recent rainfall, the Rock River is fast and very turbulent.
A man name Derek Taylor was nearby at Martin Park when he saw her put both legs over the railing and he asked her if she was OK, she then jumped off the bridge and into the turbulent waters of the Rock River.
Derek turned on his flashlight on his cell phone so the woman could see him. He saw her go under and then a short time later she pop her head up out of the water.
He was able to coach her to swim downstream to the dock at Martin Park. He was shouting out encouraging words to help her swim to the shoreline. The river currents were able to bring her close enough for him to lay down on the dock and grab her from the river. Him and someone he was with were able to hold onto her long enough for emergency personnel to arrive.
Emergency personnel responded quickly to the scene and were able to treat the woman.
Thanks to the quick thinking of Derek, He was able to save Jessica life!
We hope Jessica gets the help she needs. She is in everyone’s thought and prayers.
