On Thursday, July 20, 2017 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Rockford Police officers responded to the 2300 block of Eastmoreland Avenue in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers met with a 54-year-old male victim who claimed he was robbed of his personal property by two black male suspects who were armed with firearms.
The victim provided a description of the suspects and of the suspect vehicle. This information was broadcast to officers in the area. A short time later, Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies located the suspect vehicle crashed in the area of Montana Avenue and Florida Drive.
Officers located the two suspects, identified as 25-year-old Sherman Hayes and 22-year-old Damien Holt, both Rockford residents. Hayes and Holt were taken into custody without incident. A firearm and a BB gun were recovered.
The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s office reviewed the investigation and authorized Armed Robbery charges against both Hayes and Holt. Both were transported to the Winnebago County jail and lodged.
This is an ongoing investigation. No further information is available at this time.
The charges against Hayes and Holt are merely accusations. They are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
Around 12:35 am this morning officers were dispatched to East Mooreland in Rockford.
Sounds like the original call was subjects with a gun, or a shooting incident.
Officers spotted the vehicle fleeing the area doing approx. 90 mph and chased it. The suspect crashed and then got out on foot and now officers are chasing the suspect near Montana and Florida.
No suspect description is available yet. But one of the suspects is in custody. They are searching for another suspect in the area and have setup a perimeter.
