On Tuesday, July 11, 2017, shortly after 10:00 p.m. officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to the Winnebago County Criminal Justice Center (CJC) where they met with a victim of domestic violence. Officers learned that a violent domestic attack had occurred at a residence in the 1200 block of Sanford Street. During the attack the suspect, who the victim shared a domestic relationship with, fired one round from a handgun in the direction of the victim. The victim, who was not injured during the incident, then fled the residence and went to the CJC for assistance.
Officers went to the residence where they located the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Pedro Tinajero, and took him into custody without incident. The handgun that was used in the incident was also recovered. Tinajero was later lodged in the Winnebago County Jail where he was charged with the following offenses:
ARRESTED: Pedro Tinajero 24-years-old Rockford, IL
CHARGES: Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm
Aggravated Domestic Battery
The name and age of the victim is not being released due to the domestic nature of the incident. No further details are available.
The charges against Tinajero are merely accusations and not evidence of his guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases Tinajero is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
