Note: One of his other properties went up in flames in the past.
Around the same time frame (4:30 am) that fire was being investigated by the state fire marshal.
UPDATE: The Rockford Fire Department do believe the recent fires may be arson. RFD Division chief Matt Knott: “Arson is definitely something that we are suspecting in a lot of these fires,” Knott said. They said there was direct human involvement with the recent fires. They are investigating them and interviewing people of interest and reviewing cameras, etc… If you have any information, please call the police.
This is reported to be another vacant building. The caller originally said they saw smoke. When the RFD arrived on scene they confirmed smoke and flames were coming from the 2nd story of the structure. This is a 3rd alarm fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
When I was headed to the scene, the smoke was thick near the hospital. All the smoke from the fire was headed that way. So if you have any breathing problems, you may want to stay inside.
Scanner traffic said the building was vacant. It does appear to be vacant, the windows were boarded up on the building.
The RFD were in defensive mode. The building appears to be a total loss.
This is only a few blocks south from the fire the other day in the 300 block of 7th st.
This fire was in the 600 block of 7th st.
This fire scene is just feet from the RPD hub station.
Avoid the area for awhile, they will have this blocked off for awhile.
Unknown if it is related, but a RS fan said they saw three suspicious men wearing red just prior to the fire in the area. And they were walking very fast away from the fire scene. We advised the RS fan to call police to report this. If anyone else has information, please call the RPD at 815-966-2900
