Victim Beaten And Robbed At A Rockford Store
On Monday, June 5, 2017 at 1:35 p.m. patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to Valli Produce, 5880 E. State Street, in reference to an elderly woman who had her purse stolen from her shopping cart while walking in the parking lot. Upon arrival officers met with the victim who indicated she had been knocked over by the suspect vehicle after her purse was taken. The victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. The victim has since been released from the hospital.
Officers spoke to several witnesses who provided descriptions of the suspects and suspect vehicle.
Detectives from the Rockford Police Department immediately began an investigation into the incident. On June 6, 2017 at approximately 1:30 p.m., the suspect vehicle and suspects were located by patrol officers and detectives. Detectives continued the investigation, the results of which were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office who authorized the following charges for:
ARRESTED: Steven Hunt 46-years-old Rockford, Ill.
CHARGES: Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon
Aggravated Battery to an Elderly Victim
ARRESTED: Christina Schmidt 50-years-old Rockford, Ill.
Hunt and Schmidt were lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.

The charges against Hunt and Schmidt are merely accusations and not evidence of their guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases Hunt and Schmidt are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Around 1:40 pm today emergency personnel were on scene of a robbery call on Rockford’s East Side. Details are minimal since the Rockford police are encrypted.
