On Monday, June 19, 2017 at around 8:40 p.m., members of the Rockford Police Department SCOPE team were on patrol in the 1100 block of Furman Street when they observed 24-year-old Rockford resident, Jamal Coleman, who was wanted on a Winnebago County warrant for resisting. Officers took Coleman into custody without incident. Officers located a handgun inside the vehicle that was driven by Coleman. Officers learned that the handgun was reported stolen.
Rockford Police contacted the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office who authorized the following charges:
Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon
Possession of Stolen Firearm
No FOID card
Winnebago County warrant for Resisting
Coleman was transported to the Winnebago County jail where he was lodged.
The charges against Coleman are merely accusations. He is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
