On Friday, May 26, 2017, shortly before 3:30 a.m. patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to a residence in the 2400 block of Holmes Street in reference to a home invasion. Upon arrival officers learned that a single black male suspect, who was armed with an unknown handgun, had forced his way into the residence. The suspect then threatened a 17-year-old victim, the sole occupant at the home at the time, at gunpoint. The suspect then removed several items from the residence and fled the scene in a vehicle.
Detectives from the Rockford Police Violent Crimes Unit conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident. The results of the investigation were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, charges were authorized and a warrant was obtained for the 24-year-old suspect, Johnny Cross-Wilson, who was already being held in the Winnebago County Jail on unrelated charges.
