From the RPD: On Tuesday June 27, 2017 at around 6:30 pm Detectives of the Rockford Police Department received information about a subject, wanted on an Rockford arrest warrant, staying at the Clayton House Motel at 4800 N. 2nd St. in Loves Park, IL.
The subject, Damonte T. Hill, was wanted for an Aggravated Battery with a Firearm incident that occurred on Monday June 26th in the 2000 block of Auburn St. in Rockford, IL.
Rockford Police detectives and officers responded to the motel and met with officers from the Loves Park Police Department and deputies of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department.
Detectives, officers and deputies determined Hill was in a particular motel room and attempted to make contact with him.
The suspect would not speak with any of the officials on scene so the Rockford Police Department Crisis Negotiators and SWAT Unit responded.
Rockford Police Department Crisis Negotiators made contact with Hill and at around 2:45 am he peacefully surrendered to police and was taken into custody.
The Rockford Police Department would like to thank Loves Park Police Chief C. Lynde and his officers, Loves Park Fire Chief P. Foley and Winnebago County Sherriff’s Department Lieutenat A. Miceli and his deputies for their assistance
Rockford Scanner fan said someone came out and surrendered. And the police on the microphone have been quiet since then.
Police are calling the subject out with a large microphone. They are calling the suspect out by name. He is reported to be in room #149 of the Clayton House. The person they are calling out over the microphone just had an Aggravated Battery charges filed on them on June 26th.
The charge: Count 1 AGG BATTERY/DISCHARGE FIREARM Class X, June 26, 2017 in Rockford.
Reports saying that he has many weapons with him inside the room. Police are trying to negotiate with the suspect. He is also a parolee.
This appears to be a standoff situation with a very dangerous individual. The police have snipers on nearby rooftops. The SWAT team command vehicle and even the SWAT team special MRAP vehicle on scene. Numerous officers are on scene with riot shields and long rifled guns.
Note: All we can confirm at this time, is there is a large police presence at the Clayton House. The other information is not confirmed yet. Scanner traffic is saying the police met up just around 8 pm tonight near there to “do an assignment” and then the police have been on scene since then. It is 12:30 am and fans still reporting a large police presence on scene.
This might be a standoff. But nothing is confirmed yet.
Note: Initial reports from citizens were saying a possible body may have been found. But that was unconfirmed. It was a standoff, and no body was found
