At 2:03pm on June 4th, the North Park Fire Protection District was dispatched for a vehicle that had crashed into a home on Emerald Lane. Thanks to the quick actions of Winnebago County Deputies and the first arriving North Park Deputy Chief, the occupant of the vehicle was removed just as the vehicle caught fire while inside the home.
The fire quickly grew in size, fed by leaking fuel from the vehicle, so incident command requested additional resources through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System. Ultimately, the fire was contained to the portion of the home where the vehicle came to rest, however smoke damage occurred throughout the home.
The driver of the vehicle suffered an undetermined medical emergency, and is reportedly in good condition after being transported to the hospital. Three deputies were transported for smoke inhalation and another with a puncture wound from the debris. All should be fine.
A dog in the home ran after the chaos of the impact and was recovered later with injuries. All occupants of the home are safe. Thanks to the quick actions of the WCSP deputies on scene, and to the surrounding fire departments that assisted with this incident. via NPFD
Investigators are calling this a crime scene. Unknown why at this time. They toned out a MABAS (Mutual Aid) and other area emergency departments were en route to assist.
The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Three sheriff deputies are also injured. They are being treated for non life threatening injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, but may have been medical related.
Around 2 pm today several emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of N Second and Copper in Machesney park for a serious accident. A vehicle has crashed into a house near this location. A person inside the vehicle is unresponsive. The vehicle is on fire. Several emergency personnel are en route. Still developing.
Update: Sounds like it is near 800 block of Emerald. They are asking for the fire department to step it up and get to the scene ASAP.
They are blocking off traffic to the area. Everyone is out of the house now. Sounds like they were able to get the driver out of the vehicle. But said everything was catching on fire. Still developing
Note: Asking for animal control, because a dog is under the vehicle (Might be at a scene just up the road on N Second).
