On Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at about 1127 hours, the Rockford Police responded to the area of Jefferson St and Henrietta Ave in reference to the report of an Armed Robbery. Upon arrival, officers located at victim who sustained an injury to his head from being hit with a handgun. The victim explained as he was walking to the bus stop he was approached by the suspect who pointed a handgun at him and demanded him to give him everything he had in his pockets.
The victim attempted to run from the suspect but was struck by the suspect in the head with the handgun. The victim flagged down a vehicle occupied by an unknown person as he ran down the street and ask for a ride indicating he had just been robbed. This unknown person agreed to give the victim a ride but proceed in a slow manner allowing the suspect to catch up to the vehicle on foot and enter the rear passenger door. The victim was able to get out of the vehicle and run to his residence where police were called.
Officers identified the suspect and was able to locate him a short distance from the scene and took him into custody. The vehicle driven by an unknown person was also located a short distance from the scene. The suspect is now being interviewed by the responding Detectives.
