On Monday April 3, 2017 the Boone County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 17 year old juvenile on Felony Disorderly Conduct charges after he was identified as a person who had made threats toward Belvidere North High School and police on a social media website.
Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies received the initial call Sunday night, April 2nd, from a concerned citizen about a posting they saw online reference a bomb threat.
These type of threats are taken very seriously by the Sheriff’s Office and Belvidere School District 100. Both agencies worked throughout the night in an attempt to identify the offender. Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Belvidere North High School Officials and Boone County District #2 Fireman conducted a search of the school and the property to insure there was no threat to the students before Monday’s classes.
On Monday morning, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer, with the cooperation from the social media site and the internet service provider, was able to identify the offender. The offender, who was a Belvidere North High School student, was arrested without incident.
The investigation is still ongoing by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
