On Saturday, March 18, 2017, at about 11:15 p.m., patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to an apartment at 1035 McKnight Circle in reference to a death investigation. When they arrived, officers could smell the strong odor of vehicle exhaust coming from inside one of the closed garage doors. Officers were able to make entry into the garage where they located a running vehicle and the bodies of two male victims, ages 24 and 21. It was later learned that both victims were students at Rockford University.
On Monday, March 20, 2017, an autopsy was conducted on the two victims. Preliminary autopsy results indicated that both victims died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Detectives from the Rockford Police Department have conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident. At this time there has been no evidence of foul play and it is believed the death of the victims was an accident.

UPDATE: RPD saying this is a “Medical Assist”
Several Rockford Scanner fans said there were 2 bodies recovered last night at the Hampton Meadow Apartments. According to google maps this is near 1035 McKnight Circle in Rockford. RS fans said there were multiple police officers on scene and they removed two bodies from the scene. Police crime scene tape is up all over the scene area. A vehicle was also towed away from the scene. No other information at this time. We will post updates as they become available.
