Update from the RPD:
On March 24, 2017 at about 12:00 p.m., members of the Rockford Police Detective Bureau saw a silver four door vehicle at the intersection of South Main Street and Loomis Avenue. Detectives observed the front passenger seat occupied by Coley Carwell who is wanted for the November 11, 2016 murder of Jamario Crawford. Detectives attempted to stop the vehicle which fled. The vehicle continued to flee and at one point drove towards a responding marked Rockford Police squad car. The officer driving the squad car took swift evasive action to avoid being struck by the suspect vehicle. The chase continued until the vehicle was lost going eastbound on Charles at 23rd Street.
The vehicle was later recovered at approximately 4:00 p.m. that evening in the 2800 block of Rudeen Close.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was identified as Bennie Griffith. This information was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office who issued the following warrant for:
SUSPECT: Bennie Griffith 21-years-old Rockford, Ill.
CHARGES: Aggravated Fleeing to Elude
Aggravated Assault to a Police Officer
Due to Coley Carwell’s age no picture will be released
Around 12:40 pm today the RPD were chasing a murder suspect near Winnebago and Loomis. They asked for the Winnebago County Sheriff to assist in the chase. The suspect got away from the police and is still on the loose.
Suspect information: 2009 Silver Kia Spectra 4 door with a IL plate of S794126. Suspect is a black male. he was last seen northbound on 18th St from Charles St.
