On June 24, 2016, officers and detectives of the Rockford Police Department were notified about a possible criminal sexual assault of a young child under the age of 13. For the past few months detectives assigned to the Sensitive Crimes Unit have been conducting a follow up investigation. The investigation included DNA evidence linking a suspect, 29-year-old Andrew Jones, to this crime. This case was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s office. As a result, charges were authorized and a warrant was issued against Jones for Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child.
At the time the warrant was issued Jones was already in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections on an unrelated charge. Jones has since been transferred to the Winnebago County Jail, where he was served with the warrant, and remains in custody in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
No further information is available at this time. Additional information may be released at it becomes available.
The charges against Jones are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
