UPDATE VIA RS FAN:
The RS fan who reported this, is trying to do a good deed and return these headstones back to the proper cemetery. She has called Rockford Police, they hung up on her. She called the city, they also hung up on her. She called the cemetery where they belonged to (Willwood Cemetery on W State) and she said they were rude to her and didn’t want them returned back to the grave sites.
Why would a cemetery not want the headstones returned back to the gravesites?
Rockford Scanner tried to contact the cemetery to get their side of the story and no one answered.
The Rockford Scanner fan said she also researched the house they are at (9th st and 15th ave) and they have never lived there, it was vandals who threw the headstones into the yard. They (People on headstones) lived in Winnebago. He was the Justice of the Peace there and the City Treasurer. He started at Winnebago Lumber Company.
“The corner of 9th street & 15th ave. Two headstones are tossed in a abandoned house yard. The names on the headstones are: Eleanor Spottswood & Robert Spottswood. We have tried to tell the police a few times & they won’t respond. Maybe you can post? Feel bad for loved ones who may not know. Rockford Police act like we a crackpots.”
