On February 21, 2017, the Rockford Police Traffic Investigation Unit conducted a traffic enforcement detail in the areas of Charles Street from 9th Street to Parkside Drive, and Broadway from 9th Street to Alpine Road, to raise awareness of safety-related traffic violations and to reduce the overall number of and severity of crashes in these areas. These areas were selected based on data noting an increase in injury-crash severity. Officers conducted 56 vehicle stops during the detail, the results of which are as follows:
• 40 Speed-related citations
• 12 Cell phone usage citations
• 9 Insurance violations
• 7 Seat belt violations
• 1 Driver’s license violation
The Rockford Police will continue to perform safety-related traffic enforcement details and remind drivers to help prevent fatalities and reduce injuries on the roadways by obeying the rules of the road at all times.
NOTE: According to RPD they conducted 97 traffic stops on February 21st.
